Research on Clouds and Storms to Improve Global Climate Change Models
A groundbreaking theory has been developed that explains how moisture is transported from the lowest layer of the atmosphere to the upper layer through strong updrafts, which could improve weather forecasting and detection of air turbulence. This research provides insights that will lead to a better understanding of atmospheric processes related to storms and clouds, helping to improve global climate change models.
Semiconductor
Advances in Photoelectron Holography Pave the Way to Better Diamond-based Semiconductors
By adjusting the retarding voltage applied to the spherical grids, one can filter out photoelectrons coming from the diamond–aluminum oxide interface based on their energy. This can be leveraged to gain information about the precise atomic arrangement of interface defects.

Healthcare
Machine-learning Assisted Detection of Age-related Macular Degeneration from Fundus Photos
Researchers proposed a model for the early detection of AMD using various ML architectures. Their model ranked fourth in the ADAM challenge and was found to be extremely lightweight while being comparable in performance to other state-of-the-art models.

Quantum
Weaving single crystal thin films to Fabricate Twisted Epitaxial Lateral Homostructures
Scientists develop a new technique for controlling the properties and lattice arrangements of epitaxially-grown twisted lateral homostructures; this approach can be used to develop new nanoelectronic architectures for the semiconductor industry.

Quantum
Distill, Transform, Classify: Taking a Deep Dive into Quantum Steerability
An international team of researchers investigate, in a new study, the complete classification problem of quantum steerability using local filters in relation to the concept of measurement incompatibility. Their findings could enhance the performance of quantum networks.

Environment
Re-usable hydrogel removes toxic dyes from industrial wastewater
NCKU researchers working alongside colleagues from the US and Iran have developed a novel nanocomposite hydrogel that is ecofriendly, reusable, and has the ability to absorb high amounts of methylene blue and Congo red dye. The hydrogel could potentially be used to remediate wastewater.

Energy
Taiwan’s powerhouse for green energy
Inside the Hi-GEM Research Center of NCKU, a group of diligent academics are searching for a new future for Taiwan’s green energy technology through multidimensional applications of materials.

Quantum
QFort
Quantum technology has the potential to enhance societies and lead us into the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Over the past decade, NCKUI has invested significant resources and manpower towards quantum science and technology and has led to the finest research outcomes in Taiwan.
Space
Set Light to the Future by Satellite
Talents from NCKU are involved in an international collaboration between Taiwan (NSPO) and the United States (NOAA) and are expected to improve the accuracy of weather forecasting, especially for the subject of precipitation.
